Program 206, Developing Management Skills Program Description.
This program provides an introduction to models and techniques of management with emphasis on applications to the management of people. It examines practices, skills, and behaviors associated with effective management of human resources, and assists students in assessing and developing their own management style and competencies. Students will gain an understanding of leading state-of-the-art business theories and will be able to apply them to real-world situations.

Program Objectives.
Upon completion of this program, students will acquire professional in-demand skills and will be able to:

  • Have a working knowledge of traditional organizations and the management practices that were utilized in such organizations.
  • Ability to use analytical-thinking skills in evaluating management methods and practices.
  • Be able to apply basic management concepts using the case-study method. Understand both experientially and intellectually the uses and limitations of team-based management.

About the authors
David Allred Whetten is Professor of Organizational Leadership and Strategy at the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior at Cornell University. Whetten was elected Academy of Management Fellow. The Academy of Management awarded him the Distinguished Service Award, and the Distinguished Scholar Award, Organization, and Management Theory Division.
Kim Sterling Cameron is the William Russell Kelly Professor of Management and Organizations at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He was the dean of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He has a Ph.D. in administrative sciences from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He was cited as one of the top ten scholars in organizational studies.
